Course Rationale

Students will develop a deeper understanding of live sound reinforcement. Including Signal flow, equipment familiarity, acoustics, and electronics, even stage lighting, with an emphasis on developing the knowledge and skills to establish a career in live sound.

 


Course Subjects

An overview and use of the components and theories of live sound reinforcement. Students will explore analog and digital audio electronics principles, signal flow, mic identification and placement techniques, console identification and theory, cabling types and management, and an overview of signal processing and mixing techniques as applied to live sound settings.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

   Students will be able to identify the components that make up a sound reinforcement system and use their knowledge of signal flow, basic acoustics, live mixing and processing concepts to successfully construct, troubleshoot, and engineer a sound reinforcement system.

Students will have 6 weeks to prepare and plan for 3 mandatory shifts at the Flex Factory (room 1420), 11am-3pm on Fridays. Each shift will rotate the roll of A1 (FOH), A2 (MON), L1(Lighting) and Broadcast Engineer.
