Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Common Course Objectives/Student Outcomes:        

         Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the profession and philosophy of health coaching.
  2. Understand how to apply behavior-change models and theories to assist future clients in making lifestyle changes.
  3. Explain techniques of stress management.
  4. Explain basic principles of nutrition, physical activity, and sleep hygiene.
  5. Evaluate whether a client’s substance use (i.e. alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, recreational drugs) are in line with the client’s health and wellness goals.
  6. Explain the health risks of obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression, anxiety, dyslipidemia, cancer, arthritis, low back pain, and osteoporosis.
  7. Explain behavior change strategies to assist clients in managing obesity, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, depression, anxiety, dyslipidemia, cancer, arthritis, low back pain, and osteoporosis.
  8. Develop a plan for holistic wellness change for a friend or family member.
  9. Apply principles of wellness coaching to help clients find motivation to achieve health behavior changes.
