This is an upper-division college English class. As such, I expect the behavior and work level to reflect the advanced nature of this course. Because you are taking this class as dual credit, it is important for you to understand that I do not modify or adapt my grading or course content in any way because you are a high school student.

The repercussions of failing English 2327 include the following: you do not receive credit for your English IV high school English credit requirement, and you will fail your senior year of high school. You will not graduate if you do not pass this class. You will also receive a failing grade on your ACC college transcript.

In addition to the requirements set forth in the ACC departmental syllabus, the following information also applies specifically to American Literature 2327.

All students must maintain a passing grade and be showing progress in order to continue in the class.

2. The Awakening by Kate Chopin - any edition

Attendance and Absences

  • I only allow FOUR unexcused absences per semester.
  • If you are absent, YOU are responsible for making up any work missed according to the calendar. Do NOT come to class and expect me to re-teach you or provide work missed.
  • Any work you missed while absent is due the day you return to class. You will not be given “extra time” to complete work if you are absent.
  • Course content will not be repeated; a student not in class for any reason is still responsible for all lessons and assignments.
  • If you do not have missed work when you return to class, you will receive either a zero or the late paper policy will apply.  Late homework will not receive a score higher than 50
  • PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANY PAPER TURNED IN LATER THAN THE DUE DATE FOR ANY REASON WILL LOSE 10 POINTS PER DAY.  THERE IS NO GRADING FLOOR FOR ANY ASSIGNMENT!   IF YOU ARE ILL OR ABSENT FOR ANY REASON, YOU MUST STILL TURN IN YOUR PAPER TO ME.
  • If you receive accommodations from ACC, I will need a copy by the end of the third week of class.

IMPORTANT NOTESIf you miss more than four classes, fail to turn in ANY major assignments given or fail to participate in class, I reserve the right to drop your grade OR to advise you to drop the class.

**** If any essay is turned into Turnitin.com showing yellow or red, the paper receives a zero and you will be dropped from the class. See me if you are unclear.

English 2322 is a literature-based class. The grade you receive on an essay is not revisable. Work hard on your essays before turning them in!

3.          PLEASE DO NOT TALK WHILE OTHERS ARE SPEAKING.

4.          I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW ANYONE WHO IS ACTING IN A RUDE, AGGRESSIVE OR DISRESPECTFUL WAY TOWARD ME OR ANOTHER STUDENT.

5.          AS A COLLEGE PROFESSOR, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW YOU AT ANY TIME FROM THIS CLASS IF I FEEL YOU ARE NOT MEETING THE COURSE REQUIREMENTS OR BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

I have read and understand all portions of the British Literature I syllabus. I agree to abide by the syllabus, calendar, and expectations for behavior and performance outlined in the syllabus.  I also agree to uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity. I understand that if I plagiarize or cheat in any fashion, I will be dropped from the course, receive a failing grade, and be referred to ACC for further disciplinary actions.
