Course Requirements

Math Launch is a low cost opportunity for students to review and refresh previously learned math topics, and to reassess with the chance of improving their initial developmental math placement.  By reviewing key skills before reassessing, students may be able to improve their developmental math placement by 1-2 levels!

Math Launch is offered through ACC’s Continuing Education department.  You will earn a grade of either an S (Satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory).  To earn a grade of S, you need to attend your Math Launch classes, work for at least 10 hours in ALEKS PPL, and take at least two assessments in ALEKS PPL (you can take up to a total of 5 assessments to try to improve your math placement).  Your assessments in ALEKS PPL will be proctored by your instructor and must be taken during class times.  Developmental placement can only be improved via proctored assessments.

Students will need to bring a credit card on the first day of class to pay $20 (plus tax) for their ALEKS PPL software license.

Students should also bring a basic or scientific calculator, a spiral or binder with paper, and pencil to class.

Readings

All work in Math Launch will be completed using the ALEKS PPL software.  Students will work online in class and at home.  Regular access to the appropriate technology (reliable internet and PC, laptop, or tablet) is required to connect to your online class.  A microphone and web camera are required for class interaction and online test proctoring.

Please note that students who work in ALEKS PPL for around 20-30 hours are those who make the most significant progress and are more likely to improve their developmental math placement through Math Launch.  The Math Launch class meets for approximately 24 hours, but students should also work in ALEKS PPL outside of class.

Course Subjects

This course is individualized based on what previous knowledge each student shows on their Initial Assessment in ALEKS PPL.  Students will choose the Prep and Learning module that best suits their knowledge level and goals.  ALEKS PPL Prep modules include Prep for Beginning Algebra, Prep for Intermediate Algebra, and Prep for College Algebra.

Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Because each student has different math knowledge and will place at a different level based on their Initial Assessment, the material you will work on will vary per student.  Topics from Prealgebra through Intermediate Algebra are included in your ALEKS PPL Prep tool.
