Course Requirements

Learning Unit Tests

Five tests, about 40-50 multiple choice and true/false questions. Tests are based on the textbook and additional information from class. Tests are timed and are taken online. You are allowed to use notes and the book but you will need to know where to look in the notes for answers.  You are responsible for knowing test due dates and completing the tests on time.  You  have 2 chances to take each test.

Attendance and Participation

Your participation, in the form of reading before class, participating in discussions and exercises, and completing any discussion board and journal assignments are all a part of your participation grade. You are responsible for signing the attendance sheet each night of class.

Plagiarism Tutorial

Complete the online tutorial on plagiarism provided by the ACC library. Upload a screenshot of your quiz results in Blackboard.

Interpersonal/Conflict Resolution Assessment

Groups of 4-6 students will work together to design two role plays. The first role play will demonstrate ineffective conflict management, either non-confrontational/unassertive or confrontational/aggressive (or both). The second role play will demonstrate effective, cooperative/assertive conflict management.

Small Group Communication Assessment-Brainstorming and Solution Seeking Assignment (BSSS)

In small groups, you will brainstorm tag lines for a government campaign. Then, you will use objective criteria to evaluate the tag lines. This assignment gives you a chance to practice several skills that can enable groups to become not only more creative in problem-solving, but more effective as well.

Audience Analysis and Formal Outline

Your last two assignments will cover the same topic. The topic must be relevant to Texas and within the last 5 years. This is an informative speech, and must include at least 5 sources of information other than your personal opinion or knowledge. See additional due dates on Blackboard.

Informative Speech Delivery

You will present the 5-7 minute informative speech created in your outline assignment. You must use a visual or an auditory aid and it must be presented extemporaneously. See Blackboard for additional requirements.
