Course Requirements
Course Structure and Requirements
This course is divided into 4 modules. Each module has a set of tasks that you must complete by designated due dates (see course schedule below). In addition, there is a pre-module orientation quiz and introductions that will be graded and both of these must be completed within the first five days after class officially begins (see course schedule below). I encourage you to submit your work before the due dates, in case unexpected situations arise, causing you to miss deadlines.
Late submission: If you miss a due date for the Discussion or Video Summary assignments within Modules 1, 2, 3, you may still complete those tasks NO LATER than one week (7 days) from the original due date (for Module 4, no late work will be accepted). 20% deduction will be applied for all late submissions.
ALL TESTS must be taken by their designated due date and there are no late submissions. Please read carefully all information below.
Within each module, you will need to complete the following tasks:
- Read all assigned chapters from the required textbook.
- Write a total of two posts for each Module Discussion. One entry must be an initial post in which you address one of the questions posed by the instructor in the discussion thread. The second entry must be a response to a post entered by one of your fellow students. Each post you write needs to be at least 150 words in order for you to receive full credit. Please write your entries in your own words and use correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization and spelling. NO QUOTES will be accepted and re-writing someone else’s response will result in a score of 0. You will receive up to 20 points for each discussion post (40 points total for each module).
- Write two summaries of two videos posted under Video/Writing Assignment within each Module. You are encouraged to watch all posted videos, as they contain useful material from the textbook. However, you need to select only two of the videos in each module, for which you write two separate summaries. Each summary must be at least 300 words in length in order for you to receive full credit, and it must contain specific information presented in the video (and NO OTHER SOURCES). Re-writing the video content word by word WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, as you must write this summary in your own words. Make sure your summary is accurate, and you write grammatically correct sentences and use correct capitalization, punctuation and spelling. Points will be deducted for errors in accuracy, insufficient length, and errors in grammar, capitalization, punctuation and spelling. You can earn up to 50 points for each video summary (100 points total for each module).
- Complete a timed, open-book, TAKE-AT-HOME test for each module (100 points for every test). Each test will consist of multiple-choice questions. All tests can be taken ONLY ONE TIME (no re-tests). Each test will contain material that is assigned for the given module. Test 4 will include the material for Module 4 only (it is NOT cumulative). ALL TESTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY THEIR DESIGNATED DUE DATES. Extensions on tests will be allowed only due to unforeseen and emergency situations (e.g., an illness or hospitalization with a written note from a physician). If you are unable to meet the test due date, you must notify me ASAP by email. If I authorize an extension, you need to complete the test by the deadline we agree on. The deadline will always be within one week of the original due date. NO EXTENSIONS will be given for test 4.
- OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT (NOT required): In each module, you may earn additional points by taking advantage of the following extra credit opportunity:
In each module, you can complete a brief assignment that encourages you to try a new stress management strategy. In each module, you will watch a brief video in which two stress management strategies will be discussed (a link to the video will be included under the extra credit assignment), and your task will be to try one of the two strategies, and then write a paragraph (100 words) in which you describe what stress management tool you tried and how using this tool on a daily basis might be beneficial to you. You can earn up to 20 points for this extra credit activity.
