Designed to enhance student understanding of the marketing environment and dynamic interrelationships of the functions of market price, channel of distribution, promotion, and product responsibility. Provides a simulate market environment for experiences in marketing decision making and provides practical experience in analyzing market cases for students

The MRKG 2378 Marketing Research & Strategies Syllabus that is for the 16/12/11/and 5.5 week semesters and is posted on Blackboard web site. The syllabus on Blackboard will always be the most current.
The MRKG 2378 Marketing Research & Strategies Class Schedule & Deadlines that accompanies the syllabus on the Blackboard web site and is the listing of all deadlines and dates that have to be met.
PCM courses are designed for anyone, who has scheduling problems, work-scheduling that conflict with normal class times, or any reasons they may have.
To be successful in a DL course you must be disciplined to set a time to study the course and then maintaining that schedule. If you have an attitude that “I will study when I have the time”, you will find that you will not have the time, since there may be other items that will take priority. The deadlines are established so you do not think you can do all the work at the end of the semester. If you cannot maintain the schedule as it is presented in the syllabus, please contact me.
The first step to success in this course is the Mandatory Course Orientation. You must accomplish this by the deadline listed in the schedule. The course information is delivered in Blackboard. If you are not familiar with the Blackboard software, you can to http://www.austincc.edu/acceid/step1.htm to obtain an ACCeID that you will need as a first step.
The orientation for this course consists of reading this syllabus and the class schedule and deadlines, which can be performed on the Blackboard web site. I might say that it is imperative to use the Blackboard web site in this course. You can not find out what your test or assignment scores are without using Blackboard.
I then need for the student to send me an email acknowledging that they have read and understood the syllabus and understand that all the assignments, tests and projects are required. By accomplishing this orientation by the deadline, you will receive 5 bonus points.
In addition to a statement that you have read and understood the course syllabus and class schedule and deadlines, please go to START HERE on black board and answer the 5 question quiz.
In all your emails to me, place the following in the Subject section of the email form: MRKG 2348 (then you can put in a sub-topic if you desire) this will insure that it does not go into a SPAM folder.
Make sure you all ways use your full name to let me know who you are. peanuts@hotmailI.com does not tell me who you are. Also please do not use text messaging to send me an email. In addition, please place your full name at the end of your email. Harry does not tell me which Harry you are if I have more than one in the class. If you have any questions, please ask them by email.
I would strongly recommend that you re-read the syllabus a number of times during the semester and write down the test and project dates so you will not forget them. Especially note the last day to take the last test.
In addition, you should read the Announcements Link on the Blackboard web site once every week, since I will be using this feature to communicate to the class as a whole. These announcements will also be sent to students by email using their ACC Gmail account. Students should check this email account or take action to have all their emails at this address forwarded to their preferred email address. You will also need to email me once a week to let me know you are still working in this class. Check IT for instructions on how to do this.
STUDENT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

4. Instructional Methodology:
A. This section is a online self study course. The instructor is available for assistance. You will study the material on your own. Multiple choice/ true-false tests can be taken from home. The essay part of the test is taken at home and is submitted in Blackboard in the links that are in Blackboard. There are deadlines for all tests and projects and they are located in the Class Schedule & Deadlines that is on Blackboard.
B. The Backboard software will be used in this course to submit projects, find out grades, and announcements. This is mandatory. For those students that are not familiar with is software, you can obtain detail instructions on: http://irt.austincc.edu/blackboard/student.html If you have any anxiety over this or problems with Blackboard, please contact me or the IT Blackboard Support Group tab on the Blackboard home page or visit an ACC Tutoring Lab where they have Blackboard tutors.
The student is required to make continuous and steady progress in this course. That means meeting deadlines for tests and projects. If you can not meet a deadline, please contact me and an extension will be given in writing if warranted. Failure to make progress may result in the student being withdrawn from the course by the instructor. This is not a self - paced course where each individual does what they what when they want.
Again, upon reading the syllabus for this course, the student will email the instructor and inform him that they understand the syllabus. If there are any questions, please ask them throughout the semester. The instructor is available to assist you.
5. Course Rationale:
We live in a world that is global, highly competitive, and increasingly influenced by information technology particularly the internet. This type of information can come in qualitative and/or quantitative forms. Increasingly successful companies are using information that has been generated to determine what the target market wants, when they want it, and how they want it. Success can be as simple as knowing the target market wants 10 cup holders in their SUV or are willing to pay no more than $35,000 for their automobile. How do they know this, they collected data and it tells them? This is a study of how this is done. Key terms and concepts are important to understand the process.

Purchasing course materials
This course is part of a new program at ACC called First Day Access (FDA.) When students register for the course, they are automatically charged a fee for course materials. There are two advantages to this.
The cost of the materials in this program is substantially less than the cost through the bookstore and also substantially less than the publisher would charge for the materials directly from their website.
The materials are available to the student on the first day, so students are less likely to get behind.
Students can opt out of this program, which means they will get a refund of what they paid for materials. But then they will be responsible for purchasing the materials in another way and other ways are more expensive. This is available for a short period of time after the first day of class (at least a week in any session and two weeks in the 16-week session.)

9. Grading systems:
- You will be able to access your test from the convenience of your home.
- Each test will be made up of 2 parts, a multiple-choice part and an essay part. There will be 60 M/C and/or True-False questions and each will be valued at 2 points each. Total value of this part of the test is 120 points. The essay part of the test will be on Blackboard and will be taken at home and submitted in Blackboard. This test is valued at 40 points.
- If you score below 84 points (70%) on the M/C test you may retake the M/C exam, however the highest grade you can receive on the retest is 84 points and that is if you get all the questions correct. Any incorrect questions will result in 2 points being deducted from the 84 points. You will be given 2 chances to retake the test.
- The student may obtain exam grades by going to Blackboard and looking up their exam grade in My Grades link. All exams must be completed prior to the posted closing times of the testing centers, so give yourself ample time to complete the exam.
- To obtain a total score for each test, you must add the score for the M/C part of the test and the essay part of the test. For example: Score on M/C part of the test is 110 and score on the essay part of the test is 30, therefore total score for Test 1 is 140 which equals a B for the Test 1 material.

It is imperative that you keep the instructor informed of any changes in your contact information such as email addresses. Without this information, the instructor will not be able to contact you.
All students have been assigned an ACC Google internet address. This is the official email address that I will be using in contacting you. If you wish you can have any of my emails and announcements forwarded to another address, but you must perform whatever is needed to achieve this.
13. Chapter Assignments Project:
You must complete the following assigned question from the assigned chapters. Submit them no later than the date indicated in the class schedule and deadlines. These questions are found in the section titled “Review Questions. These assignments are design to aid you to prepare for the exam and to better understand the chapter.
There are 4 segments of this project and each is valued at 40 points for a total of 160 points for this complete project.
Projects are to be placed in the Assignment link that I have provided in Blackboard. When you use Blackboard, you must use Word software. In the past some students have used Works and I cannot open your assignment. Due to the nature of this assignment, they will not repeat NOT be accepted after the due date. One of the main purposes for this project is to help you prepare for the exam. These are required assignments
There are 4 Assignment links on Blackboard. Ensure that all the chapters that are assigned for test 1 are answered in the Assignment 1 Blackboard link. This link is Not repeat Not just for the reply to Chapter 1. For example, Assignment 1 is for replies to the assigned questions for Chapters 1, 2, and 3.
Format is important. You are to write the chapter number and then write the question number and the complete question. Then skip a line and reply to the question.
In addition, the font in Blackboard is set at 3. In the upper left hand corner of the screen, you can change the font. Change it to font 5.
Place your replies to the questions in the space in the link in Blackboard titled “Write Submission” and NOT in the space titled “Comments”. I will not read submissions placed in the comment section. I will not be able to read more than 10 words in that section. Again the section to be used is titled Write Submission.

Extra Credit Work:
Each student will be able to earn 50 bonus or additional points toward their final grade. Extra credit must be submitted by the deadlines listed in the Announcements.
Various extra credit assignments will be announced during the semester on the Blackboard Announcement section. Value will vary based on the assignment.
Departmental Policies for Withdrawals, Incompletes and Attendance
Withdrawals
It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from the course, if the situation so dictates. You should initiate the withdrawal form in accordance with the procedures at any Admissions Office at any campus or on line. REMINDER November 16, 2023 I the last day to officially drop .Failure to successfully complete the course or withdraw from the course will result in a grade of “F” which will become part of the student’s permanent record.
The instructor may withdraw a student for lack of progress or failure to take tests or submit assignments. All tests and assignments are required. Therefore, it is important to keep the instructor informed if there is any delays to your testing or submission of your assignments.
Missed Exam and Late Work Policies
Missed Exams – If you miss an exam you have 48 hours to contact me and arrange to take the exam as soon as possible. You will then have 5 days to take a make-up exam. The final test must be taken at the scheduled time. There is no make-up.
Late work – You must contact me within 24 hours in the event that you are having trouble submitting your work on time. I will work with you on a plan to be caught up as soon as possible.
Incompletes
Students may request an Incomplete from their faculty member if they believe circumstances warrant. The faculty member will determine whether the Incomplete is appropriate to award or not. The following processes must be followed when awarding a student an “I “grade.
1. Prior to the end of the semester in which the “I” is to be awarded, the student must meet with the instructor to determine the assignments and exams that must be completed prior to the deadline date. This meeting can occur virtually or in person. The instructor should complete the Report of Incomplete Grade form.
2. The faculty member will complete the form, including all requirements to complete the course and the due date, sign (by typing in name) and then email it to the student. The student will then complete his/her section, sign (by typing in name), and return the completed form to the faculty member to complete the agreement. A copy of the fully completed form can then be emailed by the faculty member to the student and the department chair for each grade of Incomplete that the faculty member submits at the end of the semester.
3. The student must complete all remaining work by the date specified on the form above. This date is determined by the instructor in collaboration with the student, but it may not be later than the final withdrawal deadline in the subsequent long semester.
4. Students will retain access to the course Blackboard page through the subsequent semester in order to submit work and complete the course. Students will be able to log on to Blackboard and have access to the course section materials, assignments, and grades from the course and semester in which the Incomplete was awarded.
5. When the student completes the required work by the incomplete deadline, the instructor will submit an electronic Grade Change Form to change the student’s performance grade from an “I” to the earned grade of A, B, C, D, or F.
If an Incomplete is not resolved by the deadline, the grade automatically converts to an “F.” Approval to carry an Incomplete for longer than the following semester or session deadline is not frequently granted.”

All students are expected to attend classes. (Online student’s attendance is based on assignment completion for this course).

Senate Bill 212 and Title IX Reporting Requirements
Under Senate Bill 212 (SB 212), the faculty and all College employees are required to report any information concerning incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking committed by or against an ACC student or employee. Federal Title IX law and College policy also require reporting incidents of sex- and gender-based discrimination and sexual misconduct. This means faculty and non-clinical counseling staff cannot keep confidential information about any such incidents that you share with them.

Student Complaints
A defined process applies to complaints about an instructor or other college employee. You are encouraged to discuss concerns and complaints with college personnel and should expect a timely and appropriate response. Statement on Privacy
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects confidentiality of students’ educational records. Grades cannot be provided by faculty over the phone, by e-mail, or to a fellow student.
Class grades should be posted in Blackboard, and this could be mentioned here.
Recording Policy
To ensure compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), student recording of class lectures or other activities is generally prohibited without the explicit written permission of the instructor and notification of other students enrolled in the class section. Exceptions are made for approved accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Recording of lectures and other class activities may be made by faculty to facilitate instruction, especially for classes taught remotely through BlackBoard Collaborate or another platform. Participation in such activities implies consent for the student to be recorded during the instructional activity. Such recordings are intended for educational and academic purposes only.
Safety Statement
Health and safety are of paramount importance in classrooms, laboratories, and field activities. Students are expected to learn and comply with ACC environmental, health and safety procedures and agree to follow ACC safety policies. Emergency Procedures posters and Campus Safety Plans are posted in each classroom and should be reviewed at the beginning of each semester. All incidents (injuries/illness/fire/property damage/near miss) should be immediately reported to the course instructor. Everyone is expected to conduct themselves professionally with respect and courtesy to all. Anyone who thoughtlessly or intentionally jeopardizes the health or safety of another individual may be immediately dismissed from the day’s activity and will be referred to the Dean of Student Services for disciplinary action.
In the event of disruption of normal classroom activities due to an emergency situation or an outbreak of illness, the format for this course may be modified to enable completion of the course. In that event, students will be provided an addendum to the class syllabus that will supersede the original version.
Campus Carry
The Austin Community College District concealed handgun policy ensures compliance with Section 411.2031 of the Texas Government Code (also known as the Campus Carry Law), while maintaining ACC’s commitment to provide a safe environment for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Beginning August 1, 2017, individuals who are licensed to carry (LTC) may do so on campus premises except in locations and at activities prohibited by state or federal law, or the college’s concealed handgun policy.
It is the responsibility of license holders to conceal their handguns at all times. Persons who see a handgun on campus are asked to contact the ACC Police Department by dialing
Discrimination Prohibited
The College seeks to maintain an educational environment free from any form of discrimination or harassment including but not limited to discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
Faculty at the College are required to report concerns regarding sexual misconduct (including all forms of sexual harassment and sex and gender-based discrimination) to the Manager of Title IX/Title VI/ADA Compliance. Licensed clinical counselors are available across the District and serve as confidential resources for students.

Use of ACC email
All College e-mail communication to students will be sent solely to the student’s ACCmail account, with the expectation that such communications will be read in a timely fashion. ACC will send important information and will notify students of any college- related emergencies using this account. Students should only expect to receive email communication from their instructor using this account. Likewise, students should use their ACCmail account when communicating with instructors and staff. Use of the Testing Center
The Testing Centers will allow only limited in person testing and testing time will be limited to the standard class time, typically one and one-half hours. Specifically, only the following will be allowed in the Testing Centers:
- Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Testing: All approved SAS testing
- Assessments Tests: Institutionally approved assessment tests (e.g., TSIA or TABE)
- Placement Tests: Placement tests (e.g., ALEKS)
- Make-Up Exams (for students who missed the original test): Make-up testing is available for all lecture courses but will be limited to no more than 25% of students enrolled in each section for each of four tests
- Programs incorporating industry certification exams: Such programs (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, etc.) may utilize the ACC Business Assessment Center for the industry certification exams (BACT) at HLC or RRC

Student Accessibility Services
Austin Community College (ACC) is committed to providing a supportive, accessible, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Each campus offers support services for students with documented disabilities. Students with disabilities who need classroom, academic or other accommodations must request them through Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
Students are encouraged to request accommodations prior to the beginning of the semester, otherwise the provision of accommodations may be delayed. Students who have received accommodations from SAS for this course will provide the instructor with the legal document titled “Faculty Notification Letter” (FNL) through the Accessible Information Management (AIM) portal.
Until the instructor receives the FNL, accommodations should not be provided. Once the FNL is received, accommodations must be provided. Accommodations are not retroactive, so it is in the student’s best interest to request their accommodations as soon as possible prior to the beginning of the semester.

Academic Support
ACC offers academic support services on all of its campuses. These services, which include online tutoring, academic coaching, and supplemental instruction, are free to enrolled ACC students. Tutors are available in a variety of subjects ranging from accounting to pharmacology. Students may receive these services on both a drop-in and referral basis.

Library Services
ACC Library Services offers both in-person and extensive online services, with research and assignment assistance available in-person during limited hours of service. Although all college services are subject to change, plans include ACC students signing up for study space and use of computers at open libraries, extensive online instruction in classes, online reference assistance 24/7 and reference with ACC faculty librarians. In addition, currently enrolled students, faculty and staff can access Library Services online (also 24/7) via the ACC Library website and by using their ACCeID to access all online materials (ebooks, articles from library databases, and streaming videos). ACC Libraries offer these services in numerous ways such as: "Get Help from a Faculty Librarian: the 24/7 Ask a Librarian chat service," an online form for in-depth research Q and A sessions, one-on-one video appointments, email, and phone (voicemail is monitored regularly).

Student Organizations
ACC has over seventy student organizations, offering a variety of cultural, academic, vocational, and social opportunities. They provide a chance to meet with other students who have the same interests, engage in service-learning, participate in intramural sports, gain valuable field experience related to career goals, and much else. Some faculty may consider adding a student sign-off page at the end of the syllabus to be removed and handed back to the instructor providing evidence that the student received a copy of the syllabus and had an opportunity to ask questions, but such a page is optional.
