Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Instructional Objectives/Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate the ability to do the following:

  • Identify and produce difficult consonant sounds (ie. /th/, /r/)
  • Differentiate  and produce vowel sounds
  • Pronounce plural and 3rd-person singular (+s) endings as needed in speech
  • Pronounce past tense (+ed) endings as needed in speech
  • Identify and produce stress and intonation patterns in words
  • Identify and produce common English stress patterns in phrases and sentences
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate stress patterns in connected speech (reductions)
  • Identify and produce common English intonation patterns in sentences
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate English intonation patterns in connected speech
  • Demonstrate strategies for practicing and improving pronunciation on their own
  • Demonstrate strategies for monitoring and self-correcting mispronunciation at word and sentence level
