Course Requirements

The course requirements are:

1) regular attendance and a positive attitude.

2) maintaining an atmosphere of friendliness and mutual respect

3) a "no injury policy", which is strictly enforced by the instructor and assistants.

Students are expected to be on time attend each class for the entire class period.

A CE student who misses more than 7 of the 22 classes is at risk of not receiving a "pass". 

Potential makeup of missed classes is at the sole discretion of the instructor.

Course Subjects

Aikido is a martial art from Japan, based on harmonious flow with the movements of an opponent or circumstance.

Originally an art of swordsmanship and battle, Aikido is practiced for many reasons in modern times, including practical application, mastery of a challenging art form, and personal development.


Student Learning Outcomes/Learning Objectives

Students will be presented with a variety of topics drawn from the whole of the art. Among the topics generally covered are:

Awareness

Power of mindfulness

Swordsmanship including solo and paired exercises with wooden sword and staff (bokken and jo)

Arts of grappling and throwing

Safety, including safe falling and absorption of applied techniques

Mind/body coordination and energy development

Brearhing and meditation
